The Tingler #1 (of 2)
CBR | Oct 2009 | 10.1 MB
Vincent Price starred in the 1959 horror-thriller film "The Tingler " directed by producer and director William Castle. In the film a pathologist, Dr. Warren Chapin (played by Vincent Price), discovers that the tingling of the spine in states of extreme fear is due to the growth of a "tingler"—a spinal parasite which can kill the host unless it is destroyed by screaming. The film was equal parts imaginative, creepy, funny, weird, ludicrous and contrived with external gimmickry but at its best moments it was indeed a spine-tingler. Now Bluewater serves up a special two-part limited series from its ongoing Vincent Price Presents title that is a direct sequel to that 1959 classic with writer Mark Millar and artist Alex Lopez. This, too, is a tingler.
In this special 2-part series, the direct sequel to the Vincent Price classic The Tingler, Dr. Chapin and his crew search for a primitive tribe with ties to the elusive creature spawned from fear with a grip like iron. But what they find in the dark jungle gives new meaning to the word terror!

Spin Angels #1 (of 4)
CBR | Aug 2009 | 53 Pages | 37.8 MB
Jean-Luc Sala, a writer who lives in Bordeaux, originally created the story for Spin Angels for a French audience through Soleil Productions in 2004. With art by Pierre-Mony Chan, Spin Angels told an action-filled story of a black-ops group of specialists and spies working for a Cardinal of the Catholic Church, although for French audiences, the comic was known as "Cross Fire." The comic was a huge success with French audiences, who were attracted to its unique combination of religion and action, carried along, perhaps, by another publication that could, in a way, also be summed up in like fashion--the huge international phenomenon Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown, released the year before. As part of Marvel's ongoing relationship with Soleil, the company decided to publish the comic for American audiences as a four-part limited series (not three as previously solicited) with the tag, "Mature Content" and here we are. Well worth the download.
A head-on collision between John Woo and John Paul II! On the fringes of the Vatican’s religious administration, a powerful Cardinal is overseeing the execution of the Church’s most discreet objectives with a force of black-ops specialists and spies. When a mafia godfather puts his best hit man in service of the Vatican to settle an honor debt, he will act as the guardian angel of a beautiful young investigator, but can he keep her out of the crossfire? Ancient secrets threaten to uproot the seat of religious power, and there are people ready to kill to protect it. Can good men fight fire with fire without losing their souls?

Star Trek: Nero #2 (of 4)

The 2009 hit film Star Trek, directed by J.J. Written by Mike Johnson and Tim Jones, and based on a story by Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman, Countdown introduced the character Nero and also spanned the gap between Nemesis and the Enterprise’s earliest voyages in Star Trek. One of the biggest questions fans have about the Star Trek movie is "What was Nero doing for 25 years?" because the time between the attack on the USS Kelvin and the arrival of Spock and the Jellyfish is left blank. Well, Star Trek: Nero will fill in that gap, with the same creative team behind Countdown. It is considered part of the ongoing rebirth of the Star Trek franchise for which IDW Publishing is playing an active part.

In IDW Publishing's new miniseries, writer Matt Venne takes some big liberties with what has been established thus far as historical fact to weave a fantastic premise into a seemingly straightforward morality and survival story. I was struck by the art, which is very reminiscent of 1960's comics artwork. Decent and interesting enough to wait for the subsequent issues.

"WORLD'S MOST WANTED: THE CONCLUSION! Everything ends." That's got to be one of the shortest and also one of the most cryptic, solicitations ever from Marvel. Until you've read this issue, still part of the Dark Reign crossover storyline. As I did. It was as if I was watching a movie unfold from inside my head. This is great stuff. No wonder this title won the Eisner Award for Best New Series. It says so right there on its cover.

Titanium Rain Double-Sized Relaunch, Book 1 (Of 2), Chapters 1 & 2
CBR | Nov 2009 | 52 Pages | 32.1 MB
Titanium Rain was supposed to be a twelve issue, bi-monthly comic book limited series techno-thriller-sci-fi epic to be published by then Archaia Studios Press, written by Josh Finney with art by Josh Finney and Kat Rocha. Issue #1 was released last June 5, 2008 to raves from fans and critics alike. Unfortunately due to unforeseen restructuring by Archaia we have never seen issue 2 and beyond. Now, thanks to Archaia being back on track, we are finally getting Titanium Rain, though with some changes to the series: instead of being a 12 issue series it’s now going to start with 2 double issues so we’ll see issues 1-2 for this month and (hopefully) issues 3-4 in the next one. The heart of Titanium Rain is contrasts and dynamic opposites, deep philosophy and gripping action side by side. This thematic tension drives every page from a simple game of poker becoming a vehicle for exposition and a metaphor for global geopolitics circa 2031, to the harrowing dogfight at the end of the book. The Art itself is fantastic, pushing the envelope for comic books; it is ultra-realistic, nice and clean, the faces of the characters so well-defined and represented you'd almost think they are real people rendered into art by software. This helps set the book up so well it gives you the futuristic feel to go along with the setting. Well worth the download. This is one series I'd immediately buy.
The premise: In the year 2031 a civil war in China has spiraled into global conflict. After the assassination of Chairman P'eng (China's supreme military leader), General Kao Shen of the PLA decides it's time for China to return to its former imperial glory and declares himself Emperor of China. The United States is pulled into the conflict when Kao Shen launches a sneak attack against Japan in an effort to goad the nation into war. The story follows US Airforce pilot, Alec Killian, and the other members of the 704th Phoenix Tactical Fighter Squadron stationed on the front lines of the conflict at Mamoru Air Base, a converted civilian airport located on Hainan Island. The pilots of Phoenix Squadron the fly F-35X Hellcat II, a fictional variant of the Joint Strike Fighter with forward-swept wings.
Titanium Rain is an amazing book, hands down. The contradictions make the work all the more exciting--it’s a future alternate-history story. A dense, literate work layered with metaphor and symbolism that is instantly accessible. It’s a thrilling war comic with an artistic soul. It’s cyberpunk action with a humanistic streak. It’s a Bruckheimer-esque thrill ride with an IQ above 130. It’s a high-octane pulse-pounding meditation on the nature of the universe. And finally it’s the best comic you haven’t read...yet! -- Michael Colbert, comicsbulletin.com
To be alive is to be at odds with the world. Man against nature. Man against man. The instinct to survive is what has made us who we are. In the year 2031 mankind's survival instinct is put to the test when a civil war in China spirals into global conflict. Nations are destroyed. Millions are killed. And for many, like US Air Force pilot Alec Killian, survival will mean shedding some of his humanity in exchange for biotech and machine. Is this the ultimate corruption of nature? Or the birth pains of a new chapter in mankind's evolution? From the team who brought you the acclaimed cyberpunk series Utopiates comes a sci-fi war epic for the post-millennial age.
