The Spider: Judgment Knight is a gorgeously done graphic novel from Moonstone, and now it's going to be a series. It is based on The Devil’s Paymaster from The Spider Magazine, May, 1941 with distinctive noirish black-and-white artwork. A mix of hardboiled prose and art, each page has three sections, prose top and bottom, about half the page, and an art panel in the middle, half the page. As you look at two facing pages, the art is one continuous panel stretching across both. They call it wide-vision, and it makes for a unique perspective onto a true pulp fiction character. "Judgment Knight" is the series tag, with each issue apparently titled. Issue #2 is titled, "Tomahawks From Hell". I'm still looking for Issue #1, though.
The body count is high as the most ruthless crime fighter of all time stars in his very own wide-vision graphic novel! Adaptation of the Spider classic “The Devil’s Paymaster”. I thought Zenescope had their series of one-shots entitled Tales of Wonderland complete when i posted them here last March 18, 2009. As stated in said post, the continuity is that this series serves as prequel to Zenescope's hugely popular Grimm Fairy Tales spin-off Return to Wonderland. It turns out Zenescope has one more tale to tell, Tales From Wonderland: The Cheshire Cat, released just yesterday, June 17, 2009. As with the others of this title, it is about another Lewis Carroll character, the eponymous Cheshire Cat, that eventually appears in the storyline of the gruesome Return to Wonerland.
Decades ago a regular house cat was sent into the unnatural realm called Wonderland. Not long after did that feline grow to become another entity altogether as it formed a consciousness and self-awareness that only Wonderland could provide and found a power that turned an innocent kitten into a killing machine. Now the feline they call the Cheshire Cat is trapped back in this world and is beginning to develop something that never seemed possible: a conscience. Superman: Secret Origin is a six-issue monthly American comic book limited series written by Geoff Johns and illustrated by Gary Frank that has long been announced but finally launched. Superman's origin story, most recently told in 2003's Superman: Birthright, has received numerous retcons and changes in the aftermath of the DC Comics event Infinite Crisis. As such, Superman's origin story in the current DC Comics continuity has yet to be told. This story therefore features what Johns and DC Executive Editor Dan DiDio are calling a "definitive" telling of the origin story of Superman, dealing with his life in Smallville, his first adventure with the Legion of Super-Heroes, his friendship and eventual bitter rivalry with Lex Luthor and his arrival in Metropolis and at the Daily Planet. Dan DiDio decided to have Secret Origin run as its own mini-series, instead of within a Superman title as Johns had done previously with Green Lantern: Secret Origin. DiDio said, "They’ll be doing the definitive origin of Superman as we’ve seen it all take place, and incorporating the changes that we’ve seen or suggested since Infinite Crisis." The series' first issue was released on September 23, 2009 and will run through February of 2010.

Beyond Wonderland is a 7-part limited spin-off series from Grimm Fairy Tales, consisting of a Prelude Issue #0 and 6 Issues. It is the sequel to Return To Wonderland and tells the story of Carroll Ann "Calie" Liddle and her brother Johnny, the children of Alice. Characters from Return to Wonderland, particularly the Queen of Hearts and the Mad Hatter, figure prominently. The concluding Issue #6 is yet to be released and is expected anytime soon.
This is a short first-person introduction to the series from the viewpoint of Calie Liddle. A two-page entry in her dairy addressed to her unborn child succinctly summarizes the previous events that took place in Tales of Wonderland and Return to Wonderland and explains the true nature of Wonderland itself. That's the "Prelude"; as for the "Intermission" you can find out for yourself.

2000 AD is a multi-awarded, long-running and still-ongoing weekly British science fiction-oriented comics anthology that serializes a number of separate stories each issue (called a "prog") that has been at the cutting edge of contemporary pop culture since it’s first publication by IPC Magazines in February 26, 1997. IPC, later Fleetway, continued to produce the title until 2000, when it was bought by Rebellion Developments. Due in part to its weekly publication schedule, it is one of only a few comics to surpass 1,600 issues. It is most noted for its Judge Dredd stories, and has been contributed to by a number of artists and writers who became renowned in the field internationally, such as Alan Moore, Neil Gaiman, Grant Morrison, Bryan Talbot, Brian Bolland, Garth Ennis and Mike McMahon.

The Secret Six is the name of three different fictional comic book teams in the DC Comics Universe, plus an alternate universe's fourth team. Each team has had six members, led by a mysterious figure named Mockingbird whom the characters assume to be one of the six themselves. The first version is composed of superheroes that make up a strike team of covert operatives. The second version consists mainly of existing villainous characters in the DC universe who undertake missions of dubious moral quality and often resulting in a high body count. DC re-launched the ongoing Secret Six series on September, 2008 reuniting some of the villains of the second version plus another and an original character. The current incarnation of the Secret Six are technically villains; yet several members of the team are treated sympathetically and come across as heroic, if only on the virtue of the team encountering individuals who are even more bloodthirsty and villainous.

In 1987, Fantagraphics Books published a reprint of a comic called Frank Frazetta’s Thun’da Tales. Originally released in 1952 in black-and-white and simply as “Thun’da Tales,” this four-color yarn of a World War II aviator turned jungle lord is said by some to be the only comic ever printed containing solely the work of artist Frank Frazetta. True or not, the aspect of Frazetta’s energetic, powerful and, appropriately enough, primal, art work from front cover to back is enough to attract comics enthusiasts and art fans alike. Gardner Fox, already a prolific creator of many D.C. Comics characters, took a hand in writing Thun’da’s adventures. Though the main character and his origin were not complex, Fox managed to entertain with straight-forward action and adventure, and instill Thun’da with an endearing roguish quality. Frazetta’s breath-taking art work, however, lifts Thun’da Tales above the norm. Frank Frazetta’s Thun’da Tales remains the classic jungle action comic book. Recommended to those whose interests are superior art and comics history.
